Inter Joins MWPL
Inter Detroit Joins MWPL East Division

The Midwest Premier League is shaping up for the 2021 season, as Inter Detroit becomes the fifth team to join the league’s East Division. Inter joins two other Detroit-area clubs, Lansing Common and BiH Grand Rapids, with more teams set to join before the upcoming season kicks off in May.
“The MWPL is a perfect fit for our club,” said Inter co-owner Edwin Jimenez. “The league works for its members and is truly invested in helping to advance and reshape the American soccer landscape. You can tell it’s not just a money-grab for them, but it’s an organization that wants its member clubs to succeed on and off the field.” Another co-owner, Omar Trevizo, reflected on the cooperative nature of the league, saying, “What we really liked about the MWPL is that everybody works together off the field to make each team and their community better while still keeping the level of competition high.”
With roots in the Pontiac area of Metro Detroit, Inter began as a team playing in a Latino Sunday league. After realizing the potential that existed as the club grew, Jimenez and Trevizo decided to strengthen the club’s infrastructure and join a more serious league. The club’s vision is to help its players earn an opportunity to play at the professional level while being active in the local community.
